  3. If possible, please let me know the title of the church hymn
sung by the Tahitian Choir. You got such an excellent choice in
playing this moving hymn. It is one of the old hymns popular in
our church meetings. I still remember the melody quite well but
its English name has gone from my poor memory. Thank you.

  4. The title called "Himene Tatou", The "Himene" is the name
for "song" in Tahitian. there is only 8% of the original
dialect of the people of Rapa still in existence today,
thereby the lyric unfortuneately were not able to translate.

This album called "Rapa Iti: the Tahitian Choir" (1992).
Rapa Iti (Little Rapa) is located a thousand miles southeast
of Tahiti, the last piece of land before the South Pole.
The population in 1991 only 328 people.

The recording took place in a common room of the village
with 126 people singing at 98% humidity and thousands of
crickets as a background outside, but when the choir begins
to sing, the producer and engineer of this project
Pascal Nabet-meyer fell as if God is happily listening, he
    did a great job!

  8. Many thanks for your enlightenment relating background
information of this powerful hymn of liberation. This may be a
long shot, but I wonder if there is any way you can help me out
to find out the original English title of this hymn. I may be
wrong, but my impression is that it is translation from one of
English hymns that missionaries taught those Tahitian
Christians. Back in 1960s and 70s, we sang quite often this
hymn in our church in the beautiful island, albeit in Han/Sino
language. My apology if I sound like I am pushing you too far.

  9. Of course this melody is follow western Christians hymns,
because the island was discovery by the British navigator
Vancouver, on the 22nd of September, 1791. Then the missionaries
came, they built the church and brought Christian culture.
At that time, the population of Rapa had been thousands.
The number dropped to less than a thousands in 1817 and fell
again to 492 people in 1929. Epidemic was there holocaust.
In 1863 Peruvians took most of the men back to wark as slaves
in the cotton field, leaving woman and children facing their destiny.
Only eight of the men ever retured. Since then the population has
    stabilized at about 300 peoples.

I wonder how many peoples live in Little Rapa right now ?

You can ask some church near by, may be they know the original
lyric and title of the song, good luck !
